Tips and Tricks: Fashion tips for your next concert

Updated: Nov 14, 2022

Concerts are a place for people to express themselves through dance, but also through outfits. In the alternative scene, fashion items such as platform boots and spiked chokers are extremely popular. Many alternative concert goers bring their everyday fashion choices to concerts, but they may not be safe or comfortable to the person wearing them. Below I will explain the do’s and don’ts of alternative concert outfits!

  1. SHOES

The one thing you do not want to hurt during a concert is your feet. Everyone knows when your feet start to hurt, your day is ruined. In order to be comfortable you want closed toed shoes with little to no heel. Vans, Converse, or any other tennis shoe is probably your safest option. Demonias, heels, and sandals are cute and definitely bring an outfit together, but they are definitely not safe for you or others at the concert. Heels, platforms, and sandals are open season for twisted ankles and broken toes. Also, if you are into moshing or crowd surfing, you could potentially kick someone in the head and cause them serious injury or get your toe crushed by someone in the pit. Please wear closed toed flat shoes and save your little feet!

  1. TOPS and BOTTOMS

Concerts tend to get very hot and most people want to dress cool, but also fashionable. Halter tops with deep cuts and spaghetti strap tank tops are cute to walk around the mall or park, but for a concert, not so much. With all the jumping and pulling that occurs at most concerts the potential for your top to break or fall down/open is bound to happen. Ideally tops with thicker straps, t-shirts, or mesh tops are safer to wear. Halter tops can be worn, but please proceed with extreme caution.

As for bottoms, to save yourself the trauma. Do not wear jeans, you will regret your decision. Denim is usually a thicker material which will hold in all the heat and sweat that your body will give off. Shorts, leggings, mesh bottoms, and even skirts are a better option. They are still fashionable, but you won’t have heat trapped on your legs along with your denim jeans sticking to you. Now, for the people that want to wear skirts, please wear shorts underneath. If you are wearing a skirt and crowdsurf with no shorts on, it will be a bit of a problem. Both tops and bottoms can make or break your outfit. You can still be fashionable, but still have all the important parts covered.

  1. JEWELRY

Earring, necklaces, and bracelets are beautiful accessories that give an outfit that last bit of pizzazz it needs. Dangling earring and larger tunnels are cute but extremely unsafe during a concert. There are arms and hands flailing everywhere, and having your earring ripped out is not what you want. Studs and plugs are a better option because they are harder to rip out or get caught onto something. Necklaces that dangle also have the same issue as dangling earrings. Chokers that are snug on the neck are more ideal because they are practically impossible to be tugged on. Finally we have bracelets. Honestly, just don’t wear them. They will fly off or be ripped off by accidentl, but let’s say that you do wear a bracelet. Bracelets should be snug to minimize the risk of being ripped off or broken, but also it should be a bracelet you do not really care about since it may be broken or lost completely.

4.HAIR Hair is pretty subjective at concerts. No one wants their ponytail grabbed, but you also are trying to keep your neck cooled off. Liberty spikes are beautiful, but you could also be blocking people. Buns and ponytails are the ideal option because you stay cool and it stays out of other people’s faces. Wear whatever hairstyle you prefer, but just know it has potential to be pulled or touched, so just be careful.

Overall you can wear whatever you want to a concert, but certain items just are not smart or safe. The safer and more comfortable you are, the more fun you will have. Now that you have a few tips on fashion choices, get out there and mosh, headbang, and crowd surf the night away!
